RFC 8102

  • Challenge with current LFA: Traditional LFA calculations only ensure protection against link failures, not necessarily failures of entire routing nodes.
  • Proposed extension: RFC 8102 introduces methods to determine if a chosen PQ-node (next hop in the remote LFA path) offers protection for a specific destination in case of a node failure.
  • Benefit: This extension allows for a more comprehensive evaluation of alternate paths. Network operators can leverage this information to make informed decisions based on defined policies, potentially eliminating paths that don't meet their requirements.
